December 2016: Launch of the new Irish Food Pyramid gives the vegetable, salad and fruit group prime position at the base of the pyramid. Now, less that 3 months later, new research indicates that 5-7 servings might need to be increased to 10-a-day to avoid serious illness. Incorporate fresh (unprocessed) fruit/ vegetables into as many meal opportunities as possible.
Including a variety of colours (from the vegetable, salad and fruit group) adds nutritional and well-being properties to enhance ageing and reduce the risk of many life-long dietary related illnesses that are contributing to increased health problems for the nation.
