A revised food pyramid was launched today by healthyireland.ie under the auspices of the Department of Health. Studies indicated that only 9% used the previous food pyramid to guide their food choices. Changes to the food pyramid are clearly visible by bread & cereal group no longer playing premium support to the pyramid - this role now goes to vegetables, salad and fruit; other specific changes are that foods and drinks high in fat, sugar and salt have no serving recommendations, as they are to be avoided as much as possible. For further information, safefood.eu explain and give suggestions of meal planning ideas for different age groups and dietary requirements.
